From Whiting, Indiana, Vince Oliver attended Indiana where he played basketball and football. After a short stint for Hammond of the NBL, Oliver also wound up playing three games for the Chicago Cardinals in the NFL in 1945, when the league's talent pool had been depleted due to the war. He wound up coaching football and basketball at De La Salle High School and later at Thornton Fractional High School in Harvey, IL. He coaching at Loyola University through 1957 and taught there through 1960 before returning to Whiting to resume coaching and teaching.
