Boehler played basketball and baseball in college, as well as ran track, and after college served in the army during World War 2. After a short time playing basketball with Cleveland, Boehler worked for many years as a teacher and superintendent in various school districts in Ohio. He died of cancer in 1987, just short of his 70th birthday.

He was married to Barbara and had two daughters, Kerry Marie Boehler and Deanna Lee Pohl.

Not sure where else he played college ball, if at all. He does not appear on Akron and Bowling Green's letterman lists, but some sources report he played there.
