Born to Jacob and Lena Weber in Rushville, Indiana, he grew up in Plainfield, where he would live most of his life. After attending Purdue, he played professionally for a few years before leaving the game to start his own construction company. He died in 1990 at 71 years of age. His high school, Plainfield HS, gives out an annual award in his name to the school's outstanding male or female athlete.

He married Virginia Hughes (1918-1986) on June 7, 1941. The had three daughters; Judith (1943-2006), Jane and Carol. After Virginia's death, he remarried, to Ocie Ward.
