Born in New York City, Mangiapane played basketball (as well as football and baseball) at NYU as a walk on, and in his senior year was second team All American. After his basketball days, he worked for the Oceanside School District as an Athletic Director.
Frank died in 2005 following a ruptured abdominal aorta.

He married Ann Kavanagh in 1948 and they had a daughter, Patricia.

  1. Frank was my camp counselor in 1945 at Camp Chickawah in Harrison, Maine. We had a great summer together!
