Born to Polish-Jewish immigrants Harry and Frances Farbman in Brooklyn, Phil played at Brooklyn College prior to entering the U.S. Army in 1943 for World War 2. He went to CCNY after the war before playing with both the Warriors and the Celtics 1948-49. After the season ended, he signed with Cohoes in the New York State League in on March 23, 1949, in time for their playoffs.

He later moved to Florida where he was an avid golfer in retirement.

SSDI has his death date listed at September 15, but Military records and Florida Death Index say September 6. I lean towards the latter.
