Lautman dropped out of high school after his junior year and signed to play with Philadelphia Passon in December of 1931. At the time 17, he is one of the youngest professional basketball players in history, if not THE youngest. The ambidextrous shooter would 14 seasons with the Philadelphia SPHA's He was regularly among the ABL leaders in scoring as Philly won seven championships with Lautman on the team. He later was the owner and operater of Lou's Point Bar in Philly.

He and his wife, Anna Siloff, had two sons.
