Born to Charles and Anna, Citrin played a few years of independent basketball, including a few years with the famous House of David team. He played one game for Wilkes-Barre in 1939-40. He would serve in the military at the very end of World War 2.


Max was married to Lillian Katz (d. 1966) and had two sons. He would remarry to Ruth Bregman (d. 2008).
